Arundel Petanque Club

Established here in 2010, the Arundel Petanque Club is based in the grounds of Arundel Football Club, with the entrance off the north-east corner of the Mill Road Car Park.

Initiated by the French, pétanque is played with metal balls and has similarities to bowls but is much quicker to play and played on any rough surface. Club sessions are on Sunday mornings, from 10.30am to 12.30pm, and Wednesday mornings, from 10am to 12.30pm. Extra sessions take place on Wednesday evenings during the summer, from 6pm to 8.30pm.

Petanque is a game for all ages and often involves whole families. One of the club members has 2 granddaughters who both play for England Juniors! Why not come along and try your hand at the game during the Arundel Festival? On Wednesday 21st August, club members will be on hand from 10am to 12.30pm, and again from 6pm to 8.30pm, to help you try. All equipment will be provided.

You can also join any club session on Sundays or Wednesdays, and the first 5 visits are free.  Joining the club costs £22 per year per adult and this fee includes becoming a social member of Arundel Football Club. Accompanied juniors play for free. A further fee of £10 is required to obtain a Petanque England licence that provides comprehensive insurance cover whilst playing on the Arundel pistes.

Why not try this enjoyable, multi generational, sport – they look forward to welcoming you! For further details contact the club chairperson, Kath Knight, on email kathknight@ntlworld.com

Arundel Lawn Tennis Club

Arundel Lawn Tennis Club (ALTC) may be small, but it is a welcoming and busy club with the stunning backdrop of the Castle. The club has three hard courts, two of
these with floodlights; and will soon be adding a fourth court, having achieved their crowdfunding target, which will allow for more members and competitions.

Founded in 1963, the club has been an integral part of the local community for more than fifty years. ALTC offers tennis to suit all ages and standards. Their weekly tennis programme hosts drop-in club sessions and group coaching sessions. Additionally, they hold regular tournaments and social events.

They are affiliated to the Sussex LTA and enter teams in the men’s and ladies’ Wilson Sandford Doubles Leagues. Coaching is also offered through Colin Piper, fully qualified (level 4) head coach.

So perhaps it’s time to dust off that racquet and have a go...after all tennis is not just for Wimbledon but all year round!

Arundel Bowling Club

Arundel Bowling Club has been providing bowling facilities to the residents of Arundel and outlying districts through membership since the 19th Century.

Within the shadow of the Castle, the club has one of the most stunning settings in the town. It has a seven lawn rink available; and a lovely clubhouse and bar. A private car park makes it easy for visiting teams to attend tournaments – and they are always delighted to welcome touring teams.

With a new secretary and chair, they are keen to encourage new members to join this friendly club. Age, strength, and speed are not important, but the skills developed through bowling can last a lifetime.

Whether it is the social aspect, or the competition and being part of a team that appeals, do get in touch and give bowling a try!
